Relief from hormonal imbalance is possible with estrogen cream

Low dose .01% estradiol vaginal cream is prescribed for Hormone Therapy (HT) to treat decreased estrogen levels in post-menopausal women. Estradiol is the active ingredient in brand names Estrace, Vagifem, Yuvafem but at nearly one-third the cost. Estradiol is a naturally-occurring estrogen in the body.

Widely known symptoms of menopause include hot flashes, moodiness and night sweats. Low dose estradiol is also prescribed for the lesser discussed conditions, Atrophic Vaginitis (vaginal atrophy) and Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM).

Estrogen's primary role in women is to regulate the menstrual cycle and reproductive system. Without this crucial sex hormone, the urethra lining may thin and the pelvic floor. These physiological changes are referred to as GSM and include repeated urinary tract infections, frequent urination, the sudden urge to urinate and some incontinence.

Vaginal atrophy symptoms include pain during sex, vaginal dryness accompanied by itching, and burning in and around the vagina. Not limited to just postmenopausal women, women in their 30s and older can also experience vaginal atrophy.

Additional uses for estrogen therapy:

  •     Osteoporosis prevention
  •     Ovarian failure
  •     Specific cancer treatment
  •     Feminizing hormone therapy

Available as a topical cream, estradiol (generic Estrace), is quickly absorbed into the body and capable of increasing estrogen levels within minutes, reaching the peak delivery in half an hour.1 Relief from estradiol may begin 1-2 weeks after continued use. Full benefits may take 3-4 weeks.

Study: Women unaware of estrogen treatments

Out of the 3,520 postmenopausal women who participated in the international study “Vaginal Health: Insights, Views & Attitudes (VIVA) - results from an international survey,"2 75% felt that vaginal atrophy had a negative impact on their life, yet only 4% attributed these symptoms to vaginal atrophy. Perhaps more astonishing is that 44% did not have a gynecologist and almost half (46%) of all respondents were unaware of estrogen therapy. The least awareness was among women from Great Britain, the United States and Canada.

Topical estrogen therapy with an affordable product like generic Estrace has the potential to help many women. Unfortunately, women may be too embarrassed to discuss vaginal atrophy with their physician, recognize these symptoms as chronic, related to menopause or know that relief is possible.

Don't miss out. Ask if generic Estrace topical vaginal cream is right for you!
